Thomas Moore’s Irish Melodies

We are delighted to welcome our Chairperson, James McCreanor, to deliver our next spring talk that takes place on Saturday 11 April at 11am in Buswells Hotel.

James’ talk will explore the remarkable life and enduring legacy of Thomas Moore, one of Ireland’s most celebrated poets and songwriters. Born in Dublin in 1779, Moore captivated the hearts of audiences across Ireland, Britain, and beyond with his Irish Melodies, a collection of songs that gave voice to the Irish spirit at a time of profound political and cultural upheaval. Set to the airs of ancient Gaelic tunes, these melodies wove together Moore’s gift for lyrical poetry with the rich musical heritage of his homeland, producing timeless songs such as The Minstrel BoyThe Last Rose of Summer, and Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms.

We look forward to welcoming our members. Anyone with an interest in music is encouraged to join us too.
