1906-1909
NOTES
- The McCormack Odeon recordings were issued in a variety of forms which may be identified via the matrix and issue number codes.
- Matrices are given in numerical order and assigned to years in which they are thought to have been recorded. The more specific dating given in 1986 listing has been found to be inaccurate (for example, research has shown that McCormack could not have been in London to record on some of the dates previously given, since he was on tour elsewhere).
- The recording sessions shown below are derived from the sequences of matrix numbers. These divisions are just for organizational purposes for now. It may be possible to narrow down the feasible times when they might have occurred through continuing research on McCormack’s concert career during the years 1906 to 1909. John Ward has demonstrated the type of research that is required to help sort out the uncertainties of McCormack’s early career.
- Some alternate takes are documented, but others are reputed to exist. Some alternate takes were probably recorded at sessions subsequent to the first.
- Take 1 is understood in the Odeon matrix numbering system. Thus, Lx 1234 signifies take 1, and Lx 1234-2 indicates take 2. The first take of a given matrix is sometimes shown in brackets (e.g., Lx 1234[-1] for clarity.
- Any study of the McCormack Odeon recordings begins with the data compiled by Philip F. Roden and Robert L. Webster and published in their article “The McCormack Odeons”, The Record Collector, Vol. XI, No. 1, 5-18 (January 1957). It is hoped to present this article on this website in the near future.
- These recordings were originally issued on the Odeon label in the UK, which was affiliated with Fonotipia. Many of these matrices were later issued on other labels, such as English Columbia, Columbia Fonotipia, American Odeon, Okeh, Regal, and others. Thus the 78 rpm issue numbers present a more complex inventory than the Victor and HMV recordings.
- Only composers are shown after titles; for more information, see the alphabetical index.

Notes:
It seems probable that the two 1906 sessions fell late in the year (November or December).
